Ranola, Amit bow out

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Iris Ranola and former world 10-ball champion Rubilen Amit took a pair of stinging setbacks and crashed out of the Women’s World 9-Ball Open Championship in Shenyang, China yesterday.

Ranola bowed to Allison Fisher of Great Britain, 9-6, while Amit failed to get going against Chichiro Kawahara of Japan and dropped a 9-2 setback at the start of the knockout stage.

Fisher later edged Monica Webb of the US, 9-7, but lost to Tan Ho-Yun of Chinese-Taipei, 9-8, in the next round.

Kawahara also lost to Siming Chen of China, 9-0.

Meanwhile, Ranola and Amit will join Efren “Bata” Reyes, Francisco “Django” Bustamante and Dennis Orcollo as they vie in the World Team Championships in Beijing later this month.
