Castrol Champs series up

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Castrol Champions of the Future Series holds its championship round at the Carmona racetrack this Sunday with four of the leading products of the program last year disputing the Expert crown in Cavite.

Seven others who joined the clinics this year, meanwhile, fight it out for the Novice title in what promises to be a tight battle of skills, strategy and the will to win.

The chase for the Expert crown is expected to be a tightly fought showdown between Fil-Aussie Flynn Jackes and AT Tuason, a third generation karter who aims to carry on the legacy of his father JP and his legendary grandfather Arthur.

Jackes leads the race with 54 points but Tuason lurks behind with 52 points. With a total of 30 points at stake for a sweep of both the pre-final and final races, any of the four Expert karters could win the overall crown, including Xedrei Daquigan and Wils Casequin who have 38 and 34 points, respectively.

Mark Francis Tanlu, who’s already doing a great job in the National Karting Series, primes himself for the Novice crown against eight-year-old Jelly Ann Knapp and seven-year-old Bobby Redpath in the event powered by Castrol, Tuason Racing School, BMW, Automobile Association Philippines, AUTSRacing, Standard Insurance, PIKA, OMP, Industria Racing, Carmona Racetrack, Lifeline, The Philippine Star, HasTravel.com, K-Zone, 99.5RT and Timezone.

The 12-year-old Tanlu dominated the first two legs to pool 57 points while Knapp has 43 points and Redpath totes a 35-point total.

Joining them are 11-year-old Julia delos Angeles with 29 points; eight-year-old Eduardo Coseteng, son of touring car champ Jody Coseteng who has 28; Jacob Paolo Ang who has 22 points and new entry 12-year-old Brian del Rosario.

The winner of the series will be given a scholarship package to run in the National Karting Series from AAP under the tutelage of multi awarded race car drivers and champion makers JP & Mike Tuason.

“This is the culminating race of their journey with the Castrol Champions of the Future program where they are equipped with advance skills and other techniques aside from the basics of karting, And hopefully, the knowledge we invested on these kids will become their stepping stones for milestone feats they could achieve as the future champions of karting,” said Castrol President Mars Sota.
