Mikee mulls PBA return
MANILA, Philippines - Sports patron Mikee Romero yesterday hinted at a possibility of owning a pro team again after a brief stint with the Burger King franchise a few years ago.
He, however, opted to keep things under wraps.
“I will tell everyone if all has been ironed out but I’m definitely always interested at having a PBA team,” said Romero in yesterday’s PSA Forum at Shakey’s UN Ave.
The Phl shooting chief and current co-owner of the AirAsia Phl Patriots in the ASEAN Basketball League also implied that there are already plans of acquiring an old franchise by seeking direct help from PBA commissioner Chito Salud himself.
“We’ll tell the commissioner about our plan, perhaps next week,” said Romero.
There were reports that Romero is interested on acquiring the Powerade Tigers franchise, which, according to sources, is up for sale.
If this happens, Romero will get to return to the PBA after serving at the helm of the Burger King Titans three seasons back.
“It’s always a dream for me to be in the PBA, it’s always an exciting prospect,” he added.
