Anton bags fourth Circuit Showdown crown
MANILA, Philippines - Yokohama-Castrol-Mark Young champion driver Carlos Anton captured his fourth consecuitive win in another record-breaking fashion up against the huge field of over 60 racers recently in the 2012 Circuit Showdown Series at the Clark International Speedway.
Anton, the 2011 Automobile Association of the Philippines Driver of the Year who bagged his sixth straight Hillclimb King plum last month, reset the short lap record to one minute, 5.003 seconds around the twisty two-kilometer course with the big support of Castrol, Yokohama, Hornitex flooring, Special Stage, Home Outlet, Autoshack, and Richmond Auto parts.
Again, the multi-titled race champ credits his Mark Young-prepared CRX with a Mohspeed 215 HP engine for his big win that shattered his own old record of 1:05.067 seconds set in Round 2 of this series last April.
“The Mark Young-Hornitex prepared Honda CRX worked well today with the cool weather conditions and we were knocking on 1 minute, 4 seconds all day. We did not really need to push as we were almost two seconds ahead of the closest competitor,” Anton said after the win.
With the win, Anton now enjoys a 20-point lead in the fastest Class over Joby Tanseco, who paraded his Nissan Skyline GTR to maintain overall No. 2 spot in this event.
The series now moves back to Batangas for the fifth leg in July. “Since we already won the Hillclimb Championship last May, this is the first time we plan to finish all rounds of the Circuit Showdown series since it started in 2010,” Anton said.
Eggy Ong won the grid A race while Raffy La’o won the grid B race using his Honda EK prepared by veteran tuner Mato Tan.
