PSC to strip losing nat'l athletes of allowances

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines  – Poised to show that his “perform-or-get-busted” warning to national mainstays in the 2012 POC-PSC National Games is no empty threat, Philippine Sports Commission chairman Richie Garcia is ready to recommend the stripping of the non-performers’ allowances after the meet.

Garcia cited in particular the case of the national beach volleyball players, who played separately for different teams but didn’t figure in the medal rounds here.

“As of this moment, we will take away the allowances of the beach volley players. Although the players can stay as members of the national team as it is the prerogative of their (sports) association, they cannot avail anymore of the incentive for their lackluster performance,” Garcia said.

The PSC boss was disappointed with the stints of Phl spikers Arnel Amadeo, Arvin Avila and Henry Pecana, who teamed up with different partners for this Games.

Amadeo partnered with  Buensuceso Sayson under host Negros Oriental, eventually losing to ARMM Tawi-Tawi for eighth place. Avila paired with coach Parley Tupaz for UST Team 3 while Pecana linked with Jayson Ramos for UST Team 2, both squads bowing out of contention early.
