MANILA, Philippines - The Far Eastern University Tamaraws swamped the Ateneo-B Blue Eagles, 61-45, and bagged a quarterfinal slot in the 18th Fr. Martin Summer Cup basketball tournament at the St. Placid gymnasium of San Beda College-Manila in Mendiola.
They quickly established and maintained a five-point advantage in the first two quarters, and later had little trouble finishing the elimination round with their fifth win in seven matches in Group B.
Russell Escoto fired 10 points and Arvie Bringas contributed eight points for the Tams, who joined early Group B qualifiers Letran and La Salle.
The Adamson Falcons, who already bagged a quarterfinal seat in Group A with the Ateneo-A Blue Eagles, needed two overtimes to fend off the University of the Philippines Maroons, 82-76.
