National pool slots up in PNG dragonboat, canoe-kayak trials

-

MANILA, Philippines - Slots in the national pool will be up for grabs in the dragonboat and canoe-kayak competitions of the second Philippine Sports Commission (PSC)-Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) National Games set June 1-3 at Lake Caliraya in Laguna.

Philippine Canoe Kayak Federation Inc. (PCKF) president Dr. Sim Chi Tat said the competitions are open to all dragonboat and canoe-kayak enthusiasts, regardless of affiliation or age.

Top performers in the games could be included on the national team to the third Asian Beach Games slated June 16-22 in Haiyang, China.

With the merge of canoe kayak and dragonboat athletes, the national dragonboat teams garnered one gold, two silver and two bronze medals in last year’s Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia.

The kayak events in Caliraya include  200 and 500 meters in men’s and women’s sprint single, touring single and touring double; while the canoe events are the 200 and 500 meters in men’s and women’s sprint single.

Registration: www.png.psc.gov.ph, or through the PCKF  technical organizer mobiles 09052245498 or 09063261238, landline 02-2431357 or email addresses [email protected]  or [email protected]

Because the games are open to individuals, teams or clubs, member or non-members of PCKF, participants who are minors need to present a waiver signed by their parents, coaches or guardians, according to PCKF secretary general Jonne Go.

National team coach Lenlen Escolante said the competitions will be governed by the world’s governing body for the sports, the International Canoe Federation.
