MANILA, Philippines - Batch ‘73 of Quezon City High School will hold a non-master chess tournament tomorrow with a huge field expected to see action at SM Novaliches.
A top purse of P7,000 will be up for grabs in the one-day event for untitled players with the runner-up getting P4,000 and the next three P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000, respectively.
Other events on tap are the seniors, juniors, ladies and kiddies divisions.
The tournament, organized by the Novaliches Novelty Chess Club, is held to provide the youth worthwhile activities this summer, according to Julie Choy, president of QCHS Batch ‘73.
Proceeds of this event, sponsored by Gen. Arturo Cacdac, also a member of QCHS Batch ’73, will be used for the improvement of QCHS Alumni offices.
