Django pockets US title
MANILA, Philippines – Francisco “Django” Bustamante smothered Raj Hundal of India, 8-4, to rule the 2012 West Coast Challenge at the California Billiard Club in Mountain View, California, USA last weekend.
The Filipino champion won six straight racks to turn a 2-4 deficit into a rousing victory worth $5,200. It was Bustamante’s second win as he also topped the One-Pocket 10-Ball event with a 4-2 victory over John Schmidt recently.
Ramon Mistica shared seventh place with Corey Deuel in the 10-Ball event while Santos “The Saint” Sambajon was landed at 9th to 12th place for $500.
Filipino pool legend Jose “Amang” Parica, meantime landed at 9th to 12th place for $200 in the One-Pocket event.
Meanwhile, former Reno WPA World Junior silver medalist Jericho Banares upset 2011 San Miguel Beer Oktoberfest Festival 9-Ball Open Masters champion Lee Vann Corteza, 11-7, to rule the 2012 Star Billiards 10-Ball Cup at the Star Billiards Center in QC recently.
Banares took home P100,000 while Corteza settled for P40,000.
Dennis Orcollo and former double world champion Ronnie Alcano finished third and fourth, respectively.
