Global rips Pasargad, stays on top in UFL

- Joey Villar -

MANILA, Philippines - Global FC leaned on a brace by Patrick Reichelt as it smashed Pasargad FC, 4-0, to fortify its grip of the top spot in the First Division of the United Football League at the University of Makati field in Makati City.

Reichelt punched in two goals in the second half – one on the 73rd minute and the other on the 86th – when the Global booters turned a scoreless tie to a rout that extended their amazing streak to eight wins.

The win, its 10th overall against two losses, also pushed Global five points clear of second-running Loyola Meralco Sparks FC, idle at second place with 25 points.

Making their move after a scoreless first half, Izzeldin Elhabbib launched and connected a goal early in the second and opened up the scoring for Global, which scored three after it in a span of 13 minutes starting on the 73rd. This included one by Alex Obiang that was sandwiched by Reichelt’s double.

Pasargad fell to its seventh loss against three victories and two draws for 11 points, which was still good enough for sixth spot.

Stallion Gilligan’s FC, for its part, eliminated last year’s League titlist and reigning Cup champion Air Force Phoenix from title contention with a 2-1 triumph.

Jovanie Simpron accounted for all of Stallion’s two goals, one coming right on the first minute and the other six minutes later. That goal gave the Stallions enough cushion to fend off the late charge put up by Air Force, which drew its only goal of the match on the 31st minute courtesy of Glen Bulaquina.

The Stallions remained at No. 4 with 21 points but it got closer to No. 3 Kaya FC, which has 24 points.

The Airmen suffered their fifth setback against three wins and the same number of standoffs that eliminated them out of championship contention.

In Second Division action at the Alabang Country Club, Union Internacional Manila walloped Forza FC, 3-1, and Diliman Victory Liner FC pummeled Sunken Garden United FC, 5-1.
