Lyceum, NU post big wins in CDL

MANILA, Philippines - Four-time WNCAA champion Lyceum University of the Phils. and National University came away with impressive victories to serve notice of their bid in the Sandugo- Collegiate (Basketball) Development League at the LPU gym recently.

The NU women’s squad, coming off a training stint in Malaysia, dominated UP-Diliman, 71-43, with Kristina Tolentino leading the charge with 13 points.

The Lady Pirates, who finished second to La Salle in the recent Fil-Chinese Basketball League (FCBL) and placed third in the Fr. Martin’s Cup, overwhelmed San Beda College-Alabang, 92-26, with Frances Mae Cabinbin pumping in 17 points and Janelle Mendoza and Dea Cuenco backing her up with 14 and nine points, respectively.

In the lone men’s game, San Beda College-Alabang rode on a big fourth quarter run to defeat Colegio de San Lorenzo, 68-53.

Tomorrow will be an all women’s affair, all games will be held at the old San Juan gym with Miriam’s high school squad meeting UP-Diliman at 3 p.m., followed by a showdown between opening day winners NU and Lyceum. Third game will have defending UAAP champion FEU going up against nemesis UST.

On April 18, Trinity University of Asia is hosting the games that will start at 10 a.m. with Lyceum meeting UST , STI playing San Beda-Alabang at 11:30 a.m., followed by the College of St. Benilde-Informatics game at 1 p.m., and the final game with Trinity University favored over Colegio de San Lorenzo.

The league is also supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, Gatorade, Primovit, and Phiten.
