Smart-Head 2012 jr. Satellite tennis circuit on in Davao

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Smart-Head Junior Satellte Circuit, a 64-day annual age group competition in key cities in the country’s major islands, gets underway today in Davao City.

Over 1,400 juniors, led by last year’s multi-leg champion Rogelio Estanio Jr., are expected to see action in chosen legs of the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta)-sanctioned tournament in their bid for tennis glory and earn as many points for the season.

Smart Communications has partnered with Head, a leading tennis brand worldwide, and Chris sports, a nationwide sports chain, in putting together what is considered the biggest competition for junior players from all parts of the country, now on its 14th year.

The program is also supported by Maynilad, Toalson and Head, the official tennis ball.

Now on its fourth year in its commitment to grassroots tennis, Smart Communications with its executive vice-president and head of consumer wireless division Noel Lorenzana, continues to support the program with its advocacy to live well through sports.

“Through these yearly summer tournaments, we have been honored to have helped discover tennis stars like Jeson Patrombon and Marinel Rudas who are now competing in international competitions,” says Liza Tang Yuquico of Head Philippines. “We will continue our search for promising young tennis stars, and continue to support with equipment fit for these stars.”

“We are all excited, and the Davao City tennis courts await to usher our young heroes who will start earning their seeds in the first of the series of these tournaments,” adds Arleen Lindo, Chris Sports marketing manager.

The Davao City kick off leg will be held until April 5.

Next legs: Koronadal City (April 9-12), Cagayan De Oro (April 14-16), Zamboanga City (April 18-20), Consolacion Cebu (April 22-25), Dumaguete (April 26-29), Bacolod (May 1-4), Iloilo City (May 6-9), Baguio (May 12-15), Olongapo (May 17-20), San Pablo (May 22-25) and Pasig (May 28-June 3).
