200 triathletes test skill in Pico de Loro
MANILA, Philippines - Over 200 triathletes and sports enthusiasts will test their endurance in a challenging 1.2 km swim, 35 km bike and 8 km run amid the panoramic terrain and seascapes of Pico de Loro Cove in Hamilo Coast, Batangas as the 2012 Pico Tri Invitational blasts off today at Pico de Loro Beach and Country Club.
Expected to answer the starting gun are multi-titled triathletes led by Canadian Matt O’Halloran; Germans Jurgen Zack and Katja Rabe; Swiss Fredrik Croneborg; Singaporean Melvin Wong, and Australian Ali Flitch with Filipinos Augusto Benedicto and Carlo Pedrigosa tipped to lead the local charge.
As early as now, local teams are testing the terrain and waters of Pico de Loro under the supervision of in-house sports and recreation consultants, Dan Brown and Ani de Leon-Brown, both renowned triathletes and endurance sport honchos, in a bid to give foreigners a run for their money.
The by-invitation triathlon event is organized by the famed Ironman finisher, Raul Cuevas. It is dubbed as Pico de Loro Beach and Country Club’s biggest sporting event of the season, designed to highlight the exceptional active lifestyle and dynamic experience that members and guests can enjoy in the coastal destination.
