Auts racing off to flying start in karting season

-

MANILA, Philippines - AUTS racing team scored a big start for this season’s title campaigns behind the impressive feats of newcomers Carl Luig and Francis Tanlu, lady karter Yvana Carangan and Brian Thorp recently in the kickoff of the 2012 Petron Karting Super Series at the Carmona Racetrack.

The 22-year-old Luig uncorked a surprise win, beating the Expert drivers to capture the Formula SL Novice crown for AUTS racing team powered by Kipling’s, Birel Competition Karts, Yamaha Winforce, Kart Care Lubricants and FreeLine Go Kart Parts.

Luck was on the side of Luig who started eighth on the first lap but slowly made his way up to the top for the big win, completing the 20-lap race in 18 minutes, 4.885 seconds or 1.365 seconds ahead of the runner-up.

Carangan also shone brighter as she bagged the runner-up finish in the Formula SL Expert division.

Tanlu clinched the second runner-up honors in the Formula Cadet Novice class while Thorp, last year’s Cadet Novice champion, took the third runner-up finish in the Formula SL Novice division.

Team manager Martin Alvendia was happy over his wards’ pilot performance this season and credited Indy Villalon, a multiple local and international kart champion who rigidly prepared and trained their karters for this season’s quests.

“Indy (Villalon) did a good job in training them that resulted to their improved performances of our mainstays and the impressive start of our rookies,” said Alvendia.
