MANILA, Philippines - The Malaybalay, Bukidnon bets flashed superb riding skills to turn back the opposition and capture the overall championship in the fifth Governor’s Cup 2012 Cebu Horse Show and Competition at the vacant lot opposite of the Talisay City Hall, Cebu recently.
Malaybalay bested their rivals from Masbate, Bohol, Dapitan, Clark (Pampanga), Davao, Cagayan de Oro, and Impasugong (Bukidnon) and home teams Cebu Province Cowboys, Cebu Equine Owners, Breeders and Sportsmen’s Association and Cebu Equestrian Club to clinch the coveted crown.
No less than the Governor of the Province of Cebu – Gwendolyn “Gwen” Garcia – awarded the huge trophy to the winners with the event held outside Mandaue City for the first time since Gov. Garcia started to sponsor the tournament in 2007.
Other backers of the event were the Provincial Government of Cebu and the local government of Talisay City.
In her speech, Garcia was grateful for Talisay’s support to the competition as she was impressed at how Talisay can make a big event even bigger.
Garcia said the competition is not purely for fun but also to instill affection for horseriding among the youth.
In other results, Cebu’s Eduard Espelita topped Class A in show jumping with Andy Tan from Davao City and Ben John Mahistrado of Impasug-ong finishing second and third, respectively.
Annie Lawrence of CEOBSA (Cebu Equine Owners, Breeders and Sportsmen Association) ruled Class B, besting Alisa Lawrence of CEOBSA (Cebu Equine Owners, Breeders and Sportsmen Association) and David Mahistrado of Impasug-ong, who placed second and third, respectively.
Earl John Ebora copped the crown in the Barrel Race (expert division) with Jason Estrada from Malaybalay and Kobi Troy Tan from Davao finishing second and third, respectively.
Terence dela Cerna of Malaybalay, on the other hand, topped the Intermediate Division, beating Clinton Corona of Davao and Patrick John Eleazar from Bohol while Jobie Casinable of Malaybalay dominated the Novice division over Bebo Pelaez and Aldrin Ramonal from Cagayan de Oro.
Janice Gallera from Malaybalay reigned in the ladies division with Jenica Eleazar from Bohol and Alisa Lawrence from Cebu placing second and third, respectively.
In the Youth division, Lord John Ebora bested fellow Malaybalay riders Mar Brizo and Quiro Sario for the top plum.
Noel Gonzales won the Auxiliary division over Ronaldo Gonzaga from Davao City, and Jemson Delima from Cagayan. while Monique Bacalla from Bohol topped the Royal level over Raymond Pasinos and Rhea Pelaez (third) from Cagayan.
Jhon Diego Mahistrado from Impasug-ong defeated Blain Shur and Franz Miole from Cebu to bag the kiddies crown.
