Peñalosa rules Century Tuna national age group triathlon

MANILA, Philippines - Franklin Peñalosa clocked two hours, 17 minutes, 34 seconds to dominate the third leg of the Century Tuna National Age-Group Triathlon (NAGT) series in Sipalay, Negros Occidental Saturday.

Peñalosa went through a rough 1.5km swim on the Sulu Sea but managed to set the pace on the 40km bike leg and sealed the victory in the 10km run of the 35-39 age-group category.

Male 18-24 champion Jami Ramirez timed 2:32:17 for second followed by 30-34 winner JJ Coscuella, who had a 2:32:44 clocking.

Mary Antonette Nuñez turned in a 2:57:37 clocking to claim the female 30-above crown in the event sponsored by Century Tuna, the provincial government of Negros Occidental, the City of Sipalay, House Representative Mercedes Alvarez (6th Disctrict), Merci’s Pasalubong, Triathlon Association in the Island of Negros (TRAIN), Standard Insurance, Philippine Sports Commission, Arena, K-Swiss, Pocari Sweat, the Department of Tourism (DOT), Dan’s Bike Shop, and Asian Centre for Insulation Philippines Inc.

Female 18-29 champion Ylang-Ylang Jordan came in second in 3:18:04 while Female 30-above runner-up Cathy Jordan timed 3:23:29 for third.

Other winners in the event graced by Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon were Standard Distance – Rosalito Albina (male 25-29), John Tamano (male 40-44), Ricardo Yusay (male 45-above).

Sprint Distance – Noelle Christine Lim (female), John Ronnel Uy (male)

Mini-sprint Distance – Yona Danielli Academia (female), David Karlo Equipaje (male)

SuperTriKids – Matti Campos (boys 6-below), Mari Campos (boys 7-8), Javi Campos (boys 11-12), Jose Fermina (boys 13-15), Georgia Fracesca Tan (girls 6-below), Maria Isabel Yusay (girls 13-15).

Team Relay – Team Athlon 1.
