John Hay seniors rule Corporate Cup
MANILA, Philippines - Nelson Eslao fired two 54s as Camp John Hay ruled the seniors division of the Philippine Corporate Cup for the second straight year, beating Hacienda De Naga by 30 points at John Hay Golf Club in Baguio City recently.
Fred Puckett added 52 and 55 points for the hosts, who finished with a 162 for a 319 aggregate in the 36-hole, four-to-play, three-to-count format event, which used the Molave scoring system.
Hacienda De Naga totaled a 289 after a 149 for second while A-1 Driving School shot a 136 to finish third with 277 in the event co-presented by Warbird Security, Ricoh Phils. and Nitro France and backed by hole-in-one sponsor Toyota.
Other members of the John Hay squad, which beat Texas by 34 points last year, were Clyde Cabreros and Park Jong Won. Eslao completed the sweep by winning the individual crown with a 108.
Imarflex Battery MFC. Corp., led by Alex Ong’s pair of 50s, also cruised to a 14-point win over Rizgolf 6 in Group 4, assembling a 268 after a 130. Rizgolf 6 shot a 135 for a 254 while Rizgolf 4 made a 131 to finish third with 250.
Repsol I, with Harlan Yu’s 43 and 36 points, lorded it over the field in Group 5, scoring a 231 after a 113 for a seven-point victory over Core Petro Bulk Maritime, which had a 224 after a 119. ABGC I placed third with a 220 after a 113.
Other individual winners were Eugene Martin of Pugad Adventure (Group 2-100), Oh Kyung Ja of CJHGCI (Group 3--95), Freddie dela Peña of AMSI-Shakey’s Calamba (Group 4-91), and Tony Co of Toyota Baguio (Group 5-84).
Earlier, Camp John Hay Golf Club, Inc. also retained the Group I crown with a 162 and a 314, 15 points ahead of Team Baguio, which had a 299 after a 150.
Rural Bankers copped the Group 2 title with a 283, nipping Pugad Adventure in the countback, while Interconnect Systems Inc. topped Group 3 with a 269.
