MANILA, Philippines - Bill Hand of the Angeles Hot Rod Association (AHRA) captured the Quick 8 crown in the second leg of the 2012 Philippine Drag Racing Championships Northern Series at the Clark International Speedway in Angeles City over the weekend.
Aboard Blue Haze, a fiberglass replica of the 1932 Ford Roadster, Hand clocked 10.278 seconds in the quarter mile strip and went on to humble Edwin Cayco of H3 Autoworks, who timed 10.992 seconds.
Cayco barged into the finals by beating teammate Bong Hilario in the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Yokohama, M&H Race Master, and powered by Racing Beat@Wave 89.1.
Another AHRA driver Christopher Sheaves, whom Hand toppled in the semis, finished third on his classic Chevy in 11.974 seconds.
Cayco, however, foiled Hand’s bid for a second win as he ruled the M&H Super Pro class after the latter figured in a breakout with his time of 10.173 seconds, enabling the former, who chipped in 11.073 seconds, to romp off with the victory.
Cayco’s younger brother Edison Cayco also hogged the spotlight as he topped the M&H Pro class in 11.212 seconds, edging Christopher Sheaves, who timed 11.491 seconds.
Jaybee Alinea of Team Ready clinched the Expert crown, foiling TEM2 driver Arvin Millet’s bid for a third straight win. Millet settled for second while Jackson Go of H3 Autoworks nipped teammate Ace San Agustin to claim third place.
Other winners were Hubert Canarias of Bertspeed and Marton Brylle Samson of Skyline.
Canarias ruled the Sportsman Class, besting Lennel Diaz of Mohspeed and Marlon Villarin of SE Racing.
Samson topped the Hotstreet division over Joms Licup of Autoworx and JR Kalalo of Team Bats.
