San Pablo mall new MCC venue

MANILA, Philippines - The Milo-sponsored Checkmate summer chess clinics tapped a new venue in Region 4 with Ultimart Shopping Plaza hosting the April 10-12 event in San Pablo City.

The three-day chess “learning and play” activity, for beginners and intermediates, will be held from 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at the 3F Cinema Lobby. The clinic consists of 14 hours chess lectures and two hours competition. The winners are awarded medals and the enrollees are given Certificates of Participation courtesy of the sponsoring Milo, the No. 1 Energy Drink.

The Checkmate curriculum has been devised by the Metropolitan Chess Club since 1990 and sponsored by Milo. Patterned after the former and famous USSR chess development program, among its foremost products include five grandmasters, namely GM Wesley So, GM Mark Paragua, GM John Paul Gomez, GM Ronald Dableo and  US-based GM Julio Catalino Sadorra.  

The nationwide, year-round clinics will start March 19 to June 3 in Metro Manila and April 1 to June 3 in the provinces. The program also provides opportunities for deserving students to compete abroad like in US, Canada and Australia.
