Steady Rose claims crown; Juvic earns P2.5M for 35th
MIAMI – Justin Rose won the Cadillac Championship on Sunday, his 70 enough to overtake Bubba Watson, whose erratic effort added to the drama of a day that saw Tiger Woods withdraw injured.
Rose two-under round included four birdies and two bogeys and gave him a 16-under total of 272.
Juvic Pagunsan blew what could’ve been an explosive windup as he fumbled with two double bogeys in the last six holes to close out with a 72 for joint 35th with seven others at 284. He won $60,500 (P2.54 million).
The Filipino ace, who opened up with an impressive 69 but slowed down with 71 and 72, birdied the first two holes in the final round then hit two more on Nos. 6 and 8 to move up in the rankings with a solid 32 at the front.
With two par-5s at the back, Pagunsan had hoped for a better output. But he flubbed a pair of birdie opportunities and then double-bogeyed the par-3 No. 13, which he bogeyed in the first two days. He failed to check his skid again the way he did in the third round where he bogeyed the last three holes as he dropped two shots on the tough par-4 18th for a 40 and a 72.
Watson still had a chance to force a playoff with a birdie at the 72nd hole and he fired out of the rough to inside 10 feet – but didn’t make the putt.
He finished with a 74 for 273, one shot in front of Rory McIlroy.
