MANILA, Philippines - A brand-new-Mercedes-Benz C180 Classic and Lexus CT200 H are up for grabs in the 23rd Bill Shaw Golf Classic, Wack Wack’s signature tournament, which got under last Wednesday at the East and West courses of the Mandaluyong golf club.
The M-Benz car, courtesy of Cats Motors, is offered at No. 3 of the West layout while the Lexus is at staked on No. 16 of the East course for the duration of the 36-hole event, a member-guest team tournament, held in honor of its founding father William J. Shaw and spread over four days, which traditionally kicks off a series of championships at the posh club.
Other hole-in-one prizes include a Jeep Rubicon, also from Cats Motors, at East’s No. 8, a Yamaha Golf Cart from Kart Plaza and a Titleist driver from Dynamic Sports Corp. at West’s No. 8, a Vios J from Toyota Balintawak and a Precedent Golf Cart from Club Car at West’s No. 11, and a Texas Eagle Golf Cart from Turf & Co. at West’s No. 14.
Two hundred forty members and their guests are vying for top honors in various divisions in the event backed by premier sponsors Globe, Smart, Madrigal Bayot-The Address, San Miguel Corp., Pacific Links Golf Development Corp., Chinabank and Pacific Online.
Unilever, Splash Corp. and Northern Islands Co, Inc. are the major sponsors of the tournament also supported by Stradcom Corp., Golfer’s Club Shares, GG & A Clubshares, Avesco, Tsukiden and EVA Air.
Elphege Wong and Damas Wong combined for a 131 to bag the overall championship last year while Marvin Caparros and JB Garcia took the Group I plum in the event backed by Cong. Gonzales, Sumometrics, Belle Corp., and Group Management, Phil Wine Merchants, China Airlines, Asia Brewery, Raymundo’s Trophies, Excellent Golfing Partners, Pagcor and OTTICA Corp.
Others going for back-to-back titles are Lance Chan and Nicholas Dybuncio in Group II, Neptali Gonzales II and Gene Sison in Group III, Francisco Singian and Antonio Villanueva Jr. in Group IV, and Viko Angala and Jack Roxas in the Sponsors division.
