Drag racing returns to Clark this weekend

-

MANILA, Philippines - The country’s fastest drivers return to Angeles City as they plunge into another exciting high speed action for the second leg of the 2012 Philippine Drag Racing Championships Northern Series this Saturday at the Clark International Speedway.

Multi-titled champion Jonathan Tiu of JCT-Blanche Racing will be eyeing his third straight triumph in the Quick 8 class to firm up his hold of solo leadership in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Yokohama, M and H Race Master, HKS Motor Oil and powered by Racing Beat@Wave 89.1.

But his participation remains uncertain as he mourns the sudden demise of his long-time friend and former Pro Class champion Anthony Go who succumbed to heart attack at age 38.

“The whole drag racing community mourns the sudden demise of Pro class champion Anthony Go who made contributions to the development of Philippine drag racing and helped professionalize the sport by encouraging drag racers out of the streets and into the safer and controlled environment of the Batangas Racing Circuit and the Clark International Speedway,” said drag racing director Fil Gulfin.

Defending champion Martin Manalo of RSL Motorsports also seeks a share of the leadership as he guns for a back-to-back win in the M&H Pro class following his impressive triumph in Batangas last month.

But the possibility of Tiu’ absence could also pave the way for the domination of the Angeles City-bases American V8 muscle cars led by John Ryzia, Steve Caldwell and William Hand, or possibly get the competitive drivers of H3 Autoworks led by Pepi Santos, Edwin Teofilo Cayco and Edison Cayco into the limelight.

Arvin Jay Millet of TEM2 aims to make it third in-a-row in the Expert class against Jeremie Cabreros of H3 Autoworks and Dondon Santos of Street Tuners.

Jude Kenneth Carrido of LEM also aims for a repeat in the HKS Sportsman class over runner-up John Carlo Cordero and third placer Angelo Mendoza while Dennis Pernes of TMC looks forward to a repeat of his feat in the Hotstreet division over runner-up Darell Bautista and third placer Christopher Gonzales for the Hotstreet title.
