Guevarra, Dy add glamour to PSA rites

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) goes novel in its Annual Awards Night Saturday as it taps not just one, but two young, lovely ladies to host the formal dinner at the Manila Hotel.

The charming and chic duo of Sel Guevarra and Luanne Dy team up for the special occasion that will have the country’s sportswriting fraternity and oldest media organization honoring the top achievers of 2011.

This mark the first time two ladies will serve as host of the yearly rite presented by Smart.

Hosting isn’t new to the two gorgeous women.

Guevarra, 22, is current courtside reporter for Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) games, while Dy, 25, does segment hosting in GMA’s early morning show Unang Hirit, and in some programs of GMA news and public affairs.

A social science graduate minor in philosophy, Guevarra was a former cheerleader at Ateneo. Dy, on the other hand, comes from the famous political clan from Isabela, who took up accountancy at Far Eastern University.

The presence of the two bubbly ladies are expected to add spice and glamour on the night when boxing champion Nonito Donaire Jr. and pool king Dennis Orcollo are going to be feted with the coveted Athlete of the Year award in colorful, but simple ceremony to be aired live over DZSR Sports Radio 918, and co-presented by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Milo, and Coca-Cola. Acting as guest of honor and keynote speaker in the weekend celebration also supported by the PBA, SM Prime Holdings, Philippine Amusements and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor), ICTSI, and Harbour Centre, is Vice-President Jejomar Binay.

The country’s top sports officials headed by Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco, PSC chairman Richie Garcia, and long-time International Olympic Committee (IOC) representative to the Philippines Frank Elizalde, lead the special guests list attending the event.

PSA president Rey Bancod of Tempo said awardees and guests who failed to receive their respective invitations, can get them instead by the entrance of the hotel’s function room.
