Viloria seeks revenge vs Romero
MANILA, Philippines - Brian Viloria hopes to finally get back at Omar Niño Romero as he defends his WBO (World Boxing Organization) flyweight crown on April 1 in the Island Assault card aired on Solar Sports-Ch. 70 on Sky Cable, Ch. 35 on Destiny, Ch. 45 on Cignal and Ch. 31 on Cable Link.
Viloria, with a 30-4-2 record, including 12 knockouts, has dropped two matches to Romero but the Fil-Am fighter is all geared-up for a revenge in a bid to gain a crack at Hernan “Tyson” Marquez, the reigning WBA (World Boxing Association) champion.
Viloria, virtually written off after losing his IBF light flyweight title to Carlos Tamara in 2010, is coming off a big comeback last year, winning over Julio Cesar Miranda last July to cop the WBO flyweight crown then stopped the fancied Giovani Segura in the eighth round last November.
Most boxing analysts argued that Segura will be a very tough rival for Viloria. The Mexican boasts of a tremendous punching power and also holds two knockout victories over Ivan Calderon, then regarded as the best little fighter in the world.
But Viloria made it look easy, exposing Segura’s deficiency in speed as he pummeled him with left hooks for the easy win.
Viloria has credited his trainer Mario Morales for his return to form, saying. “He’s an old school trainer. We don’t do anything fancy, we just work hard all the time.”
After that big victory over Segura, Viloria has trained his sights on just one fighter and on one goal – beat Romero.
