Archers shoot for women's tennis 3-peat
MANILA, Philippines - De La Salle University guns for a three-peat in the UAAP Season 74 women’s lawn tennis tourney as the Lady Archers look to finish off University of Santo Tomas today at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
The Lady Archers, who have swept the eliminations, 6-0, to grab the No. 1 spot and twice-to-beat finals incentive, are intent on completing a clean sweep not only of the women’s competitions but of the entire tennis hostilities.
Their male counterparts earlier brought home the men’s crown, capping an undefeated season with a pulsating 3-2 disposal of finals rival National U and providing extra inspiration and even pressure as the Lady Archers look to duplicate the feat in the five-match duel beginning at 9 a.m.
“It would be sweeter if we win the girls title, too, so we can go on a double celebration,” said DLSU coach Roland Kraut.
The Lady Archers are gunning for their seventh crown and the school’s 11th overall against a Tigresses side shooting for their first title since stringing three straight from 2006-08.
The UST netters had to hurdle University of the Philippines in a playoff last Tuesday, 3-2, to book the second finals seat in the netfest backed by Dunlop Fort Elite 3.
