Henares sets bench rest mark
MANILA, Philippines - Daniel “Danby” Henares of Makati outclassed all rivals to capture a gold medal in the inaugural staging of Philippine National Shooting Association (PNSA) Bench Rest 50 (BR50) competition at the Philippine Shooting Range in Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City recently.
Henares, using a ruger semi-automatic bench rest rifle, also set a Philippine record in the semi-automatic class with 484 points of a possible 500 points that outshone all shooters from all levels to take the gold and the overall honors as well.
“I thought the German match rifles were going to rule the contest, but you never know, when luck is going to smile on a man,” said Henares.
In the semi-automatic category, Henares beat Gene Manalastas (461) and Raymond Mendoza (454). The competition requires the shooter to use a bench rest rifle and then shoot a target at 50 meters.
The target bull’s-eye is about 1 mm in diameter and the shooter is given 50 shots with a maximum of 500 points.
Other gold winners were Eli Canivel (447) in sporter class and Tonu Olbes (455) in light varmint class.
The PNSA BR50 spearheads the local bench rest activities under the World Rimfire and Air Bench Rest Federation (WRABF) format every first Sunday of each month starting March 2012. The competition is supported by PNSA President Dr. Mikee Romero.
