Global FC shuts down Gilligan's

MANILA, Philippines - Global FC neutralized Stallion Gilligan’s attacking game and eked out a 1-0 victory to get into title contention in the First Division of the United Football League at the University of Makati field.

Izzeldin Elhabbib provided the lone goal of the match on the 57th minute as the Global booters notched their fourth win to gain a share of second place with the Loyola Meralco Sparks with 12 points apiece.

Stallion suffered its first loss after four wins and a draw for 13 points, opening the door for Loyola, which can seize the solo lead with a win over Navy Red Juice at 6 p.m. tonight also at UMak.

Kaya FC joined Loyola and Global at No. 2 after it overpowered Pasargad FC, 3-0, earlier.

After a scoreless battle in the first half, Ivory Coast’s Eric Dagroh came through with one to shatter the deadlock and Prince Mark Boley and Fil-Am Nate Burkey, a member of the Azkals team, then followed it up with goals on the 61st and 83rd minute, respectively, to put the match out of reach. Pasargad fell to its third loss against two draws for two points.

In Second Division action, Cebu Queen City United defeated Dolphins United FC, 5-1, and Agila FC downed Laos FC, 3-1, to enhance their respective bids.
