Frontrunning Gilligan's up vs Global FC

- Joey Villar -

MANILA, Philippines - Stallion Gilligan’s FC tries to stay at the helm for another week as it clashes with Global FC side at resumption of action in the First Division of the United Football League at the University of Makati field today.

Led by the prolific Korean Lee Joo Young, the Stallions turned back the Hans Smith-mentored Archers, 5-2, at the Rizal Memorial pitch last week to regain the solo lead with 13 points on four wins and a draw.

The Loyola Meralco Sparks are in second with 12 points.

A victory in their 4 p.m. showdown with Global will keep Stallion at No. 1 for at least another week.

A loss, however, will give Loyola a chance to re-claim the solo lead with a win over Navy Red Juice set tomorrow, also at UMak.

“The match against Global is another big test for us, we’ll see what happens,” said Stallion manager Ernest Nierras.

Against the Global booters, the Stallions hope to draw the best from the Fil-Spanish duo of Angel Guirado and Carlos de Murga and talented forward Misagh Bahadoran.

De Murga scored the winning goal for Global in its 1-0 win over Green Archers United at the Nomads Sports Club in Parañaque last Feb. 5, pulling the team abreast with Kaya FC with nine points apiece.

Focus, however, will be on Lee, who shows the way in goals with seven, three ahead of Phil and James Younghusband wo had four each.

Kaya goes for a share of second with Loyola as it plays Pasargad at 2 p.m.

“We can’t be overconfident in this league because anyone can beat anyone,” said Kaya coach Juan Cutillas.
