UE, La Salle open bid in Shakey's Girls Volley

MANILA, Philippines - University of the East and De La Salle-Zobel (DLZ) take on separate rivals today as they kick off their campaigns in the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League NCR leg at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

The UE and DLZ tossers are two of the fancied bets in the league with the former clashing with the MGC New Life Christian Academy side at 10 a.m. in Pool B action and the latter colliding with equally tough Elizabeth Seton School at 11 a.m. in Pool A.

Colegio San Agustin (CSA) and St. James College-Malabon (SJM), meanwhile, clash at 9 a.m. in a duel of opening-day losers in Pool B while Rizal High School (RHS) likewise tries to recover lost ground as it tangles with St. James College-Parañaque (SJP) in Pool A at 8 a.m.

Angelicum College, Mighty Sports-Hope Christian School, National U and Kings’ Montessori School (KMS) hurdled their opening-day matches in last week’s opener of the event sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza and organized by Metro Sports.

The top two teams in the two-division, seven-team elims, backed by Toby’s, Mikasa and Asics,will clash in the crossover semis with the winners disputing the NCR leg crown and a berth in the Tournament of Champions slated March 21-24.

Meanwhile, Pajo National High School and De La Salle-Lipa topped the Central Visayas and Southern Luzon legs, respectively, with Baguio National High School ruling the Northern Luzon regionals recently.

The Western Visayas-Iloilo leg is set Feb. 18-March 4, while the Western Visayas-Bacolod tournament will be held Feb. 19-March 4. Also on tap are legs in Mindanao Davao Feb. 8-12 and Eastern Visayas Feb. 17-26.
