Tigresses, Falcons firm up Final 4 bids

-

MANILA, Philippines - University of Santo Tomas (UST) and Adamson University beat separate foes on Wednesday, making the race for last two seats in the semifinals even tighter in UAAP Season 74 women’s volleyball at the San Juan Arena.

Maika Ortiz registered a personal season high 20 hits and Maru Banaticla scattered 15 points for the Tigresses, who ousted the University of the East (UE) Lady Warriors out of the Final Four, 25-21, 25-15, 25-16.

Pau Soriano, on the other hand, made 20 points for the Lady Falcons, who scored a 25-18, 25-18, 21-25, 25-19 victory over the Lady Tamaraws of Far Eastern University (FEU).

That loss by the Lady Tamaraws forced a three-way tie for third place among FEU, UST and Adamson on 7-5 win-loss records. De La Salle (11-0) and Ateneo (11-2) are already assured of semifinals berths.

Sheila Pineda contributed 19 hits as Mayette Zapanta recovered from a mini-slump and added 16 points, on top of two blocks, for the Lady Falcons.
