Injured Muñoz out of UFC fight card

- Joey Villar -

MANILA, Philippines - The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event dubbed “UFC on Fox 2” has undergone a major change as Fil-Am Mark Muñoz was pulled out of the fight card due to injury.

His opponent Chael Sonnen will instead face English middleweight contender Michael Bisping, according to UFC president Dana White.

The winner of the Muñoz-Sonnen bout was scheduled to face Anderson Silva for the UFC middleweight title in Sao Paolo, Brazil, while Bisping and Damian Maia will headline the third installment of the UFC on Fox series.

With Muñoz out, Maia will now fight Chris Weidman to complete the three-fight card.

Meanwhile, the main event featuring former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans and Phil Davis will go on as scheduled. Balls (SkyCable Channel 34), the home of the UFC in the Philippines, will broadcast the event on Jan. 29 starting at 11:30 a.m.

Evans, 16-1-1, is on a three-fight win streak, including a second-round technical knockout victory over Tito Ortiz in August last year. Davis, 9-0, on the other hand, considers Evans as his toughest competitor so far.

The two fighters were previously scheduled to headline UFC 133 but David suffered a knee injury, forcing him to withdraw with Ortiz taking over his spot.

Fans expect fireworks in the Sonnen-Bisping fight with Sonnen vowing to knock out Bisping.

Meanwhile, Balls channel is available on SkyCable Platinum, SkyCable Gold, SkyCable Silver and over 200 quality cable operators nationwide. For updates, visit www.ballschannel.tv and follow us on facebook.com/BallsChannel and @ballschannel on Twitter.
