Adamson sweeps Dickies elims

MANILA, Philippines - UAAP runner-up Adamson fended off Ateneo, 66-57, to post a seven-game sweep of the elims in the FCBL Dickies Cup at the Philippine Buddhacare gym in Quezon City over the weekend.

Jinky Balasta scored 10 of her team-high 15 points in the payoff period to power the Lady Falcons to the victory. She also had three assists, three rebounds and three steals to bag the Dickies Underwear Player of the Game award for the second straight week in the event presented by Dickies.

For topping the elims, Adamson, which also escaped with a 67-66 win over UST, will go into the quarterfinals with a twice-to-beat advantage also against Ateneo which wound up last in the elims with a 1-6 mark.

Reigning UAAP titlist Far Eastern U, Lyceum and La Salle also clinched twice-to-beat edges for finishing second, third and fourth, respectively, in the event backed by Smart, Mang Inasal, Home Depot and Powerhouse.

The Lady Tamaraws downed the Lady Archers, 47-41, to finish second at 5-2 while the Taft-based squad fell into a three-way-tie for third with Lyceum and Centro Escolar University at 4-3.

But the Lady Pirates, who thumped the CEU side, 73-43, took the No. 3 spot with a superior quotient while La Salle ended up at No. 4.
