MANILA, Philippines - Roider Cabrera hit a triple as time expired as Freego Jeans stunned Cebuana Lhuillier, 57-56, yesterday in a day of reversals in the semifinal round of the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at the San Juan Arena.
Big Chill also fashioned out a surprise 83-66 rout of fancied NLEX in the other Final Four encounter as the Jeans Makers and the Super Chargers moved within a pair of wins for an unlikely title showdown.
Cabrera came off the bench in the last six seconds then buried that game-winner against Pari Llagas to lift the Jeans Makers to victory.
Lester Alvarez scored 16 points and Eric Camson had 11 markers and nine rebounds for the Jeans Makers, who blew a 14-point second quarter lead.
Cebuana Lhuillier, which played catch up majority of the way, seized control at 56-54 lead with 11.6 seconds remaining on back-to-back triples by Terrence Romeo.
Vic Manuel finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds for Cebuana Lhuillier.
Big Chill also pounced on NLEX’s poor shooting in the middle quarters to pound out the victory over its top-seeded rival.
Alex Mallari topscored for Big Chill with 20 points while RR Garcia tallied 19 points and Cliff Hodge added 11 markers for NLEX, which shot just 34 percent from the field (22 of 63) and trailed by 28 (70-42) at the end of the third quarter.
