Knights, Lady Falcons gain in Martin Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Letran and Adamson thumped their rivals to advance in their respective divisions in the eighth Fr. Martin Collegiate Open Cup basketball tournament over the weekend.

The Knights overwhelmed the Philippine Collegiate Champions League titlist San Sebastian Stags, 98-82, at the Trinity University of Asia gym in Quezon City to reach the Last 8 in the men’s side.

In women’s play, the Lady Falcons grabbed the first automatic semifinals berth following a 77-64 trouncing of the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses, towing the Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates into the next round.

Kevin Alas sizzled with 31 points for the Knights, who posted a 59-46 lead in the first half en route to their fifth straight victory.

 University of the East also totes a 5-0 slate in Group B while the National University Bulldogs paced Group A with a 6-0 card.

The NU Lady Bulldogs trounced the winless La Salle-Lipa Lady Chevrons, 91-38.

In other men’s matches, the Informatics Icons, led by Giovanni Alalon, pounded the Trinity University of Asia Stallions, 85-64, for a 2-2 card.
