MANILA, Philippines - Eduard Folayang of Team Lakay Wushu lived up to the hype as he disposed of Brazilian muay thai specialist Wadson Texteira in less than a minute in the Colt 45-presented Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) Cebu 7: Dominate at the jampacked Cebu International Convention Center in Cebu over the weekend.
Folayang, the country’s top MMA fighter, needed just 56 seconds to finish off Texteira with a vicious ground-and-pound strategy that forced the hapless Brazilian, who displayed excellent kickboxing skills in the early going, to give up.
Texteira actually sent Folayang down with a quick left jab and tried to hammer the Filipino bet with a guillotine choke, but the Asian Games and SEA Games wushu gold medallist held his ground and avoided being forced into submission.
Using his superior strength, Folayang mounted on Texteira before unleashing a barrage of punches that proved too much for the Brazilian to overcome.
“He (Texteira) was tough but I was still able to beat him,” said the 27-year-old former high school teacher in Mountain Province.
In the supporting bout, Cebuano Cary Bullos snatched the URCC Visayas bantamweight title by stopping Tinagan warrior Rex de Lara in 40 seconds in the second round.
