MANILA, Philippines - Former national amateur champion Rolly Viray played true to form and fired a four-under 68 to cop the overall gross crown while JR Gonzales took the overall net title with a 69 in the Balik-Canlubang Homecoming golf tournament at Cangolf’s south course recently.
Jart Mercado carded a 74 for a net 70 then nipped Jojo Enrile, who had a gross 77 for a net 70, in the countback for the Class A plum while Ernie Quiatchon made a net 71 from a gross 92 to beat Roberto Cubio, who had a gross 93 for a net 72, by one for the Class B diadem in the 18-hole tournament, the last sporting event of the Balik-Canlubang community homecoming which will have highlight events today and tomorrow.
Rene Tacujan turned in a net 74 from a gross 99 to post a two-stroke victory over Neo Rimas, who had a gross 98 for a net 76, in Class C while Lydia Gomez ruled the ladies side with a net 72 from a gross 82. Ikuko Kito had a net 73 from a gross 91 for second in the System 36 format event graced by many-time Junior World titlist and reigning Queen Sirikit Cup champion Dottie Ardina, whose grandfather Faustino was one of Canlubang baseball legends.
Rey Coquia made a gross 82 for a net 69 to edge Mari Hechanova, who had a net 70 from a gross 73 for the guest division crown in the event backed by hole sponsors Luigi Yulo of Cangolf, Ely Baradas, Lito A. Tacujan of The Philippine STAR, Richard Hong of Korpak Corp., Rudy Verano of Folares Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Gerry Sy of San Francisco, USA, Alice Craig-Ashwell of Canlubang, Dr. Elpidio Rosario of CSGA (Cangolf Seniors), Sa, Gook Hwan Dominic of Gee Gee Rest. Group, Ted Villanueva of PRN (Nursing Review), Councilor Peewee Perez of Calamba City, Miguel Hernandez and Charlie Carmona of Cangolf, Victoriano and Gregoria Ortilla Sr. and family and Sonny Santos and Walter Khu.

Meanwhile, the Canlubang Homecoming festivities starting today will be ushered in by registration at 7 a.m., a Holy Mass at 8 a.m. at the St. Joseph Parish Church and lunch and get-together party at the Don Bosco gym in the afternoon. It will culminate with a dinner-dance tomorrow.
