Lady Eagles seek 5th win vs Lady Tams

-

MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo tries to keep its hold of second place as it faces Far Eastern University while Adamson tangles with National U in today’s resumption of the UAAP women’s volleyball eliminations at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Eagles are gunning for their fifth win in six games in the 3:30 p.m. match with the Lady Tamaraws, who are also going all out to improve their 3-2 card.

The Lady Falcons and the Bulldogs tangle at 2 p.m.

In men’s play, University of the Philippines goes for its fourth win in six outings as it takes on Adamson U (2-3) at 9 a.m., while De La Salle (2-3) faces arch rival Ateneo (1-4) at 10:30 a.m.

Despite missing ace spiker Maica Morada, who was benched for disciplinary action after missing the team’s practice, the Lady Tamaraws still scored a 25-22, 25-23, 25-17 victory over the Lady Falcons last Saturday, a win that could provide some worries to the Lady Eagles.

“We have cooked up something for them (Lady Eagles). We have reviewed their game and we are ready,” said Lady Tamaraws coach Nes Pamilar.

If Morada remains on the bench, FEU, owner of 29 women’s titles in the league, would be pinning its hopes again on Wenneth Eulalio, Rosemarie Vargas, Mayjorie Roxas, Gyzelle Sy, rookie Mary Rose Baniel and libero Christine Agno.

But the Lady Eagles are determined to keep their grip of second place behind the unbeaten defending champion De La Salle Lady Archers (5-0).

“We will try our best to maintain our standing,” said Ateneo coach Roger Gorayeb.

The Lady Eagles are also coming off a win, bucking a second set loss to repulse the Lady Maroons, 25-13, 25-21, 25-12, last Sunday.

Alyssa Valdez and Fille Cainglet are again expected to spearhead Ateneo’s charge along with Dzi Gervacio, Gretchen Ho, playmaker Jem Ferrer and defensive specialist Denden Lazaro.
