MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Badminton Association (PBA) has reiterated its call on the organizers of the 2011 Yonex-Sunrise Philippines National Open Badminton Championships held last Nov. 19-27 that it did not sanction the event.
PBA chairperson and former first lady Amelita “Ming” Ramos said the event organizers did not seek permission to hold the tournament.
“The PBA wishes to inform the badminton public that it did not sanction nor did the organizers seek permission for hosting the Yonex Sunrise Philippine National Open Badminton Championships. The PBA has no participation whatsoever on the said event,” said Ramos in a letter to the organizers.
The PBA is the only authorized organization to sanction badminton events in the country and the sole governing body of the sport in the Philippines recognized by and affiliated with the Badminton Asia Confederation (BAC) and the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
Despite repeated calls, the PBA said the organizers also continued to use the phrase “Philippine National” in its title.
“It is in this light that the PBA wishes to inform again the badminton community that this event is not sanctioned by the PBA nor does it have any participation whatsoever on this event. Further, the PBA will not tolerate such and will act accordingly,” the PBA said in a statement.
