Falcons, Archers gain in FCBL Dickies Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Adamson turned back Far Eastern U while La Salle outlasted Ateneo in another thrilling encounter that highlighted the FCBL Dickies Cup at the Philippine Buddhacare gym in Quezon City over the weekend.

Mary Peñaranda knocked in the rear end of her charities, lifting the Lady Falcons to a pulsating 72-71 overtime victory over the Lady Tams, avenging their title defeat in the recent UAAP finals.

The win was the fifth straight for the San Marcelino-based squad while handing the reigning UAAP champions their second consecutive defeat in the tournament backed by Smart, Mang Inasal, Home Depot and Powerhouse.

Peñaranda completed another double-double performance with 10 points and 20 rebounds to emerge as the Dickies Underwear Player of the Game winner.

La Salle, on the other hand, picked up its fourth win in five games by downing the Lady Eagles, 53-46, behind the 24-point performance of Aracelie Abaca.

Abaca also pulled down nine rebounds as the Lady Archers tied Centro Escolar University for second place at 4-1.

The Mendiola-based squad leaned on a torrid third quarter assault to pull off a 72-63 come-from-behind win.

Nigerian Folishade Ogunsemoyin led the CEU belles with 17 points and 19 rebounds to clinch the Dickies Underwear Player of the Game award for the second time - a feat matched by Abaca.

In the other game, Lyceum won by forfeiture over University of Santo Tomas.

Meanwhile, the Saturday-only tournament takes a break starting Dec. 17 and will resume Jan. 14.
