DLS-Lipa, CES spikers topple rivals in opener

MANILA, Philippines - De La Salle-Lipa A trounced St. Jerome Emiliani Institute (SJE), 25-4, 25-12, in girls Pool A while Concepcion Elementary School repulsed SJE, 22-25, 25-6, 25-11, in the boys’ side as they opened their respective title-retention bids in the Toby’s Junior Volleyball League at the Toby’s Arena in Pasig last weekend.

Meantime, action resumes today with Elizabeth Seton School clashing with Xavier School and DLS-Lipa colliding with Rafael Palma Elem. School in boys’ Pool B of the two-month long event sponsored by Toby’s Sports and organized by Metro Sports.

Other matches pit Miriam College against Colegio San Agustin in girls’ Pool B, Jubilee Christian Academy versus SJE in girls’ Pool A, and St. Joseph’s College against SJE and St. James College versus Project 6 Elem. School in boys’ Pool A of the two-division tournament, which drew a record 26 teams.

Earlier, Toby’s Sports chairman Bobby Claudio graced the opener of the seventh saging of the event, featuring the country’s leading junior netters, along with Metro Sports president Freddie Infante and tournament director Johanz Buenvenida.

In other opening day results, Miriam College beat DLS-Lipa B, 25-16, 25-16, DLS-Zobel defeated Elizabeth SS, 25-22, 25-14, CSA downed Makati Hope Christian School, 25-20, 25-11, all in girls’ Pool B; Hope Christian High School ripped MGC New Life Christian Academy, 25-0, 25-8, in girls Pool A;

Palanan Elem. School disposed of St. James College, 25-9, 25-19, and CSA nipped Proj. 6 ES, 21-25, 25-19, 25-14, both in boys’ A; DLS-Lipa swept Harrel Horne IS, 25-11, 25-12, and ESS held off Lourdes School, 25-19, 25-21, and Rafael Palma ES beat Xavier, 25-3, 25-13, in boys’ Pool B.
