Rum Waves collide with Chargers
MANILA, Philippines - Streaking Boracay Rum goes for its fourth straight win and a crack at the playoffs as it tangles with Big Chill in a duel of contenders even as RnW Pacific Pipes resumes its bid against winless Cobra in the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at the San Juan gym.
While a couple of early favorites tumbled down the standings with losses last week, the Rum Waves continued to work their way up to solo fourth behind a three-win run and are all pumped-up to further extend their streak against a skidding Big Chill side in the main game at 4 p.m.
Boracay Rum is coming off a 72-68 win over DUB Unlimited as it seized solo fourth with a 4-2 card and boosted its bid for an outright semifinal berth while erstwhile leader Big Chill dropped its last two matches and three of its last four games to fall to 4-3.
“We are treating this week a do-or-die week for us. We are not yet safely inside the Top 6 so we’ve got our work cut out for us,” said Boracay Rum coach Lawrence Chongson.
RnW Pacific Pipes, meanwhile, tries to improve on its 3-3 card as it takes a hapless Cobra side in the 2 p.m. opener.
