Green Water takes charge early in Fil-Am

BAGUIO ,Philippines  – Green Water Meadows I pooled 97 points to grab the lead in Am B at the start of the regular 62nd Fil-Am invitational golf tournament at the Baguio Country Club here yesterday.

Gary Puckett hit 27 points, Rey Palaganas had a 25, while brothers Larry and Jack Puckett added 23 and 22 points, respectively, for Green Water Meadows, which led Baguio Ventures II by two.

James Wong scored 25 points, Ben Malcontento made 24 and 23s from James Wong and Reli Gomez chipped in 23 points each for Baguio Ventures’ 95-point output.

Guam Kool Swingers stood in third with 92 points as Michale Gatewood shot a 26, Leo Ganacias made a 23, Daniel Gatewood tossed in 22 and Dan Ganacias added a 21.

Over at Camp John Hay, Butch Bakunawa carded a five-over 74 worth 31 points to power Ultra Flite GC I to 104 and a seven-shot lead in Fil B.

Roger Crespo added a 26, Dennis Nicomedes had a 25 and Rey Talatala scored 22 points in the five-to-play, four-to-count format event sponsored by Toyota, Pacsports, Illy, Empire and Wilson.

Arnold Duay had 27 points and led Margot Marikina Golfers’ 97-point production for second while Mamala Bay, led by Chris Howard’s 28 points, assembled a 93 for third spot in the event backed by Fashion Rack, Air 21, Rizgolf, Supreme Bike, GPS Tracker, Golforce, San Miguel, Le Chef, Camp John Hay Development Corp., Beaufort and Bayan Business.

Gabriel Javelosa scored 24 as Team Surigao posted a one-point lead in Am E with 84.

Ely Polinag and Orly Mabutas each scored 21 points while Jeffrey Quizon added 18 points as Surigao took a one-point lead over Fil-Golfers of Honolulu, which got 23 points from Ely Coloma.

Mar Buliche had 22 and led Veterans GC to 81 for third.

Vic Se scored 26 as Team Surigao II forged a tie with Paga Guam in Fil E.

Meanwhile, action in the premiere Fil Championship starts tomorrow with Forest Hills going for a repeat win against seven-time winner Manila Southwoods and former champion Mizuno.
