UP tankers to show stuff in Coseteng Swim Cup

-

MANILA, Philippines - UAAP champion University of the Philippines looms as the top favorite in the higher age categories of the first Nikki Coseteng Swimming Championships slated Dec. 18 at the Rizal Memorial swimming pool.

The UP tankers will join other schools and clubs in the age group competitions, which feature the top 16 swimmers with the best clocking in each of the categories – 11-12, 13-14, 15-17 and 17 and above.

The clocking will be based on their times in previous meets of the Philippine Swimming League.

The competition, organized by the PSL and the Diliman Preparatory School, will have heats in the morning, with the top 8 advancing to the afternoon finals.”

“The format will give swimmers the chance to experience international competition,” said former Sen. Coseteng, DPS president and chief executive officer, who will be celebrating her birthday on Dec. 18.

“We are preparing our swimmers for an early selection of swimmers we will further train for the 2013 Universiade,” said Coseteng.

Coseteng herself will award the most outstanding swimmer for male and female, who will also receive a free trip to an upcoming international competition together with a coach.

PSL president Susan Papa said the competitor that breaks the most number of meet records will be adjudged the best swimmer.

She also said every swimmer will be classified according to the US motivational time standard – from BB to AAA – which will be the basis for his training program in the future.

The Coseteng Swimming Championships also features a freestyle knockout skin where the top male and female swimmers in the 100m freestyle will swim 8x50m, with the lowest after 50 meters eliminated until only one swimmer is left.
