MANILA, Philippines - The National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA) stages off-road and on-road events in different disciplines in the NAMSSA Motorcycle Sports Festival this weekend.
The motofest opens with off-road racing action from the country’s top motocross riders competing in the Mayor Romeo Capinpin Motocross Invitational Grand Prix in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija on Saturday. The races are part of the festivities prepared by the city government to celebrate the 46th Foundation Day of Palayan City and also mark the penultimate round of the NAMSSA National Motocross Development Program. ATV (all-terrain vehicle) and UTV (utility vehicle) races have been included in the schedule to spice up the motocross events.
On Sunday, action swings back to Metro Manila with the final round of the Repsol Road Race Championship. The event, backed by Gold Rush Distribution Corp., Philippines and SM Supermall Sucat, is also recognized by the Philippine Sports Commission.
Organized by Sonic Boom Motorsports and sanctioned by the NAMSSA, Sunday’s races will determine the champions in eight (8) categories as well as the 2011 National Underbone Rider of the Year and National Underbone Rookie of the Year.
The road race categories will be interspersed with Supermoto heats that will serve as a tune-up event for the Filipino riders in preparation for the FIM Asia Supermoto Championship, a continental event that will stage one of its rounds in the Philippines in 2012. The three categories for the Supermoto races are Open Production, Open Imported Enduro and Local Enduro.
The Motorcycle Sports Festival Weekend is in line with NAMSSA’s programs to promote and develop motorcycle sports along the different disciplines. For more information regarding the Motorcycle Sports Festival Weekend and other NAMSSA events and activities, regularly visit www.namssa.org.
