PAL-AK7 bags world veterans cage plum

-

MANILA, Philippines - AK7/Philippine Airlines, backstopped by two former PBA players, dominated their rivals to capture the 40-years-and-above division crown in the 27th World Veterans Basketball Invitational tournament in Taiwan over the weekend.

With John Cardel and Benny Cheng at the helm, the Phl Seniors, also backed by PAL’s Bong Tan, ran their taller rivals from Hong Kong and China to the ground to sweep their division.

Aside from Cardel and Cheng, other members of the team were Achit Kaw, playing-coach Willie Wu, Ardy Dumlao, George Dy, Alex Co and Gerry Go.

“Nobody thought we could win the championship with a small line-up that we have but we persevered and won it,” said Wu. “I salute Cardel and Cheng for their great effort but everybody did their own share.”

Meanwhile, the team, backed by Burlington Socks, Pacific Paint Boysen Phils., Camus Engineering, Hypervolt Electrical Services and Jea Steel Industries, will gather sometime next week to celebrate the victory.
