Fil-Aussie cyclist gains podium finish

- Joey Villar, Nelson Beltran -

JAKARTA – Fil-Australian lady rider Apryl Eppinger has achieved her goal of giving honor to her mother’s native land as she grabbed the silver in the 500m individual time trial in the 26th SEA Games cycling track events at the Rawamangun Velodrome yesterday.

Eppinger, a member of the Carnegie Caulfield Cycling Club in Australia who’s represented the Philippines in two SEA Games and one Asian Games, clocked 38.134 to finish second behind Malaysian Fatehah Mustapa (38.134).

The only other Phl lady rider here outside of Marites Bitbit, Eppinger had her contribution as she bested Indonesian Muzizah Uyan (38.338) for the silver.

Eppinger, a former Australian junior track bet, hardly made her presence felt in the 2007 Nakhon Ratchasima SEAG and in the 2010 Guangzhou Asiad.
