Big Chill ices Pacific Pipes
MANILA, Philippines - Big Chill dominated RnW Pacific Pipes, 70-48, while Cebuana Lhuillier trounced DUB Unlimited, 85-72, to join Blackwater in the lead with two straight wins in the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at the Trinity University of Asia gym yesterday.
Raffy Reyes and Thomas Tan spearheaded the Superchargers’ run in the third quarter to set the tone for the rout of the Steelers, who kept the game close in the second quarter after falling by 11 points in the opening period.
The Gems likewise leaned on a big third quarter binge to repulse the DUB Unlimited side with Vic Manuel, James Mangahas, Jai Reyes and Kevin Alas combining to break the game wide open after three deadlocks and 10 lead changes.
The Cebuana quartet combined for 26 points as the Gems outscored their rivals, 30-15, to pull away for good, 62-50.
“(DUB) did a good job trapping our guards that’s why we struggled in the first half,” said Cebuana Lhuillier coach Luigi Trillo. “But we got our games going in the third and we disrupted their offense with our defense that kept them confused.”
Alas, who played his last game to attend an exchange-student scholarship in the US, led the Gems with 14 points.
Reyes poured in 11 of his topscoring 17 points in the third quarter while Tan added seven points as the Superchargers outscored the Steelers, 26-12, to post a commanding 56-33 lead entering the final period.
