Bunquin, 2 others top Phl Am golf kickoff leg

MANILA, Philippines - Raymond Bunquin, Rex Goquingco and Lin Mangulabnan bested their rivals in their respective divisions to lead the winners in the first Pilipinas Amateur Golf (PAG) Series at the Sherwood Hills Golf Club in Trece Martirez, Cavite recently.

Bunquin holed out with a par on No. 18 for a 77 as he posted a two-stroke win over Mark Macaranas, who had a 79, for the Class A championship in the inaugural tournament of the nine-leg circuit.

Bunquin thus netted 232 points in the PAG Series’ Order of Merit ranking. The top four finishers in each division will gain berths in the national championship.

Goquingco carded an 80 to beat Fred Salonga (83) by three for the Class B crown while Lyn Mangulabnan scored 86 to capture the Ladies-A crown in the event sponsored by Mizuno, Callaway, Cleveland, CJH, Impact, Srixon, Raymundo’s Trophies, Texas Eagle and Turf Co.

The other winners were Simon Villalon (Class C), Lee Tong Wha (Sr. A), Arnold Jumalon (Sr. B), Gabrielle Bruce (ladies open), Erica Macaranas (ladies B), and Caloy Tinio III (men’s Open).
