ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Philippines – The Ateneo Blue Eagles and Adamson U Lady Falcons bagged the basketball gold medals on the final day of the week-long 16th Philippine Sports Commission-University Games (PSC UniGames) before a a full-house crowd at the Capiz Gym.
The Blue Eagles, playing without their key players, relied on solid teamwork to post a 76-62 win over the West Negros U Mustangs.
St. Francis of Assisi College topped University of San Agustin, 80-76, to salvage third place.
In women’s basketball, Adamson went to Ghine Buendia, Fria Bernardo and Sai Avila to score a 63-56 victory over St. Benilde and retain the title.
De La Salle University (DLSU) picked up its second gold, beating the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, 4-1, in men’s football.
In an all-UAAP finals in men’s volleyball, defending champion Far Eastern U swept University of Sto. Tomas, 25-21, 30-28, 29-27, for the Tamaraws’ sixth gold, including its share of top honors in women’s taekwondo.
FEU emerged overall champion with earlier victories in athletics, women’s football and women’s chess.
USLS salvaged a measure of pride for the Visayas as its women’s volleyball team, toughened by its stint in the Shakey’s V-League, took the crown at the expense of Adamson University, 25- 20, 25-15, 25-20.
