MANILA, Philippines - The Pilipinas Amateur Golf (PAG) Series kicks off with its inaugural leg today with close to 120 participants eyeing honors in different divisions at the par-72 Jack Nicklaus signature course of Sherwood Hills Golf Club in Trece Martirez, Cavite.
The PAG Series will have at least nine qualifying tournaments, once each month beginning at Sherwood, for amateur men and women with certified handicaps. The top four qualifiers at the end of the series will play in the national final to determine the champions.
A Texas Eagle golf cart, a Mizuno Golf set and a GPS Tracker with one-year UnliTrack subscription service are at stake as hole-in-one prizes in the event backed by Callaway, Cleveland, Camp John Hay, Mizuno, Nike Golf, Srixon, Raymundo’s Trophies, Texas Eagle and Turf Company.
“We are excited with this. Since it is open to all, we are hoping to discover potential talents who might make it to the national team in the future,” said tournament director Rodel Mangulabnan, who conceived PAG with general managers and club directors in the country.
Right after Sherwood, Splendido will host the November leg. It will be followed by Royal Northwoods, Mt. Malarayat, Orchard, Forest Hills, Cebu Country Club and Ayala Greenfields. The last qualifying stop will either be at the Pueblo de Oro or Apo Golf Club.
Entry fee is P2,000 to P2,500 for local players or P3,500 to P4,000 for foreign players in the next legs. Host club members are fixed at P1,000. Each player will be given a P500 Mizuno gift certificate. Register via SMS by sending “GOLF” to 0917-8784478 or through www.pilipinasgolf.com.
